Don Whitmore’s next book is expected to be on the subject of nuclear weapons, including such topics as nuclear proliferation; nuclear arms control and the physical effects of nuclear warhead detonations. In 1995 he authored a book-length, two-volume monograph titled “Rationale For Nuclear Disarmament” (Library of Congress CCN#94-62064). For over four decades he managed the popular website ABOLISH NUKES.COM. He was active in the nuclear freeze movement in the mid-80’s and lectured frequently in the Seattle metropolitan area. He was also a frequent lobbyist in Washington D.C. on Congressional legislation related to nuclear arms control (such as nuclear weapons testing and space-based missile defense). As a Boeing Company engineer for 32 years, many of his assignments related to military systems analysis. His engineering and science background served in becoming a respected authority.

 

Book #3 will make the case nuclear weapons are extremely inhumane and irrelevant in meeting security needs. Non-nuclear weapons are much less inhumane and much more relevant. Nuclear war risks continue to rise in the 21st Century as nuclear attacks are hinted at while nuclear arsenals proliferate. A specific example of such nuclear war risks is keeping nuclear missiles on 24/7 “hair trigger” alert, ready to launch on attack warning. Nuclear war risks are compounded by incorporation of artificial intelligence (A.I.) in the command and control of nuclear weapons. Unintended nuclear attacks and retaliation are a growing risk today. Also, intentional nuclear war is made more likely by U.S. Pentagon development of tactical nuclear warfare options (revealed August 5, 2026 by Under-Secretary Elbridge Colby).

 

Global abolition of nuclear arsenals has never been more urgent.
